Ever sliced your 5 or 10 year plan into yearly increments and thought about where you’d like to be from year to year? For sure, a year is not as roomy as 5 or 10 years, but it’s got some solid advantages that I like. One, It’s a good point to take a snapshot of where you really are. It’s nice to know how tall you’re measuring out to be in your growth plan. And two, if you’re off track, it gives you the agility to course correct and catch up without delaying your go-live day in 5 or 10 years.
If you want to check in on your plan this time next year, here are 3 things you want to tell yourself:
- I want to have already accomplished… What’s ‘the thing’ you want to complete by next year? Pick something tangible. Make it iconic enough to show that you hit a respectable milestone of your plan
- I want to be actively doing … Commit to remain actionable and consistent. Write a good action plan and save the date this time next year to do it.
- I want to be headed towards … Your best is in front of you. Keep your next significant step in focus and have the courage to take it. You never know what door that next step will lead you into.
“If you’re walking down the right path and you’re willing to keep walking, eventually you’ll make progress” – Barack Obama
